More correctly, I guess it all goes back to one thing: I'm a Type A personality, a product of two type A parents, and Type A personalities are characterized by several things. One of which being that they often take on more obligations and commitments than time allows. Quite frankly, I can handle the time constraints, it's the "empty space blocks" that seem to mess me up the most. The more freetime I have, the more I really do things I shouldn't. The busier I stay, the better I do. The fuller class loads I pull-- 15+ credit hours per quarter, which translates to about 10 semester credit hours (most full loads are considered 8 or more)-- I do well. Last quarter's 3.9 GPA (with 15 credits), or the last quarter before that's eight credits, 3.75. This term, I have 16 credits, which is going to be about average for the coming year. Most of my quarters will be 18+ credits-- Fall (20 credits) and Winter (18 Credits)-- and Spring will be the same as this year. Then, because all is the will of God and not due to the will or desire of man, inshallah, I'll graduate, at least magna cum laude, from LCC and immediately that summer start my baccalaureate through Washington State University-Vancouver's 2+2 Bachelor of Elementary Education program that summer-- the first quarter is 8 credit hours spread between four classes, the rest of the quarters are about the same.
Anyways, I'm presently running for on campus political office-- the position of Vice President of Student Affairs, to be specific. It has some power but not all the responsibility, so it's perfect for me! So far, I'm a bit bummed, I'm running unopposed, which means less competition, which automatically makes it less fun! A Type A personality, especially one that THRIVES on stress and is a stress SEEKER, LIKES the competition. The lack of it makes it less fun by default! I'm not actively campaigning, I only have 35 of the 100 signatures I need to be eligible, but I also have a good two weeks to do all that. Considering I have a little bit more than a third of the signatures I need and have only been actively seeking them for TWO DAYS, I'm doing good.
I haven't formulated a campaign statement yet, and will hold off on that. Any ideas? I would like to install an "open door" policy. I want to be accessible to the students of Lower Columbia College, for them to come to me with any questions, concerns, etc., so that they're heard and not ignored like a lot of them are. They'll talk to me about their issues when they don't feel comfy talking to anyone. I'm just like that. I'd be very good in a diplomatic or, well, more covert role. My Northern European looks can be made to look like almost anything or to blend in well anywhere. Remember Valerie Plame? I'll likely look like her in 20 years-- as it is, my age, 11 days until my 27th birthday-- is not clear to most people, they GUESS about 22.
So yeah, I'm 27 in 11 days, on May 12th. I expect e-cards in my inbox-- memaha512@gmail.com -- me Mum works for Hallmark, the card company, and if I had a betting line in Vegas on the odds of her getting me a birthday card, I'd place low bets. She's been with the company for 10 years now, and she didn't get me a card for ANY "milestone" birthday-- 18, 21, 25.... she forgets to get Dad anniversary cards, though he remembers to get one for HER. She forgets birthday cards, yet is offended if birthday cards are forgotten for HER. Go figure.
